External users

External users in GitLab are users from external organizations that cooperate with Sikt. External users needs to be created by Platon, but access to groups and projects is managed in a self-service manner by the responsible team member.

A tip for the management of a project with external contributors is to create a main group or a subgroup which can be a collection of projects external contributors are involved in. Consequently, this will logically separate projects with external contributors from other internal projects and make it easy to onboard new external users when the need arises.

Request onboarding of external users

Platon needs a billable K-element 7 for the license costs of these external users, as well as their full name(s) and email address(es).

In order to request onboarding of new external users send an email to kontakt@sikt.no with a subject such as: "New GitLab external users for exampleProject" and include the following information:

  • Billable DFØ K7 for the users license costs
  • Name of each user
  • Email addresses of each user

Example of a new email:

To: kontakt@sikt.no
Subject: New GitLab external users for exampleProject

DFØ K7: K123456

The Gitlab accounts for external users are local users in Gitlab and does not use Feide login.
