Configure DNS for an application

Modify one or more records of an existing domain owned by Sikt​

How to do this depends heavily on which domain the DNS records you need to create belongs to. We have different DNS solutions in Sikt, so it depends on what DNS servers are authoritative for the domain.

If the domain is served by Route53 in an AWS account, you must log in to that account and perform DNS record modifications there, of course.

If you want to modify a DNS record on one of the following domains, you need to send an email to hjelp@sikt.no and request web access to the DNS zone originating from Unit:

If you want to modify a DNS record in any other domain owned by Sikt, send an email to hjelp@sikt.no. Remember to specify the name (FQDN) of the record and what it should point to. And any other details if needed (like, TTL).

warning

If you want to create a DNS record directly under sikt.no, the name needs to be approved by the Kommunikasjon section, to make sure it wouldn't interfere with any other applications/names.

tip

HINT: If your application is running in the k8s PaaS cluster, the record should point to: paas2-ingress.lb.uninett.no. See the PaaS FAQ.

I want a new domain for my application, can I make Sikt buy a new domain?​

That depends on the toplevel domain of that domain. If it is .no you need to get permission from the Kommunikasjon section. There is a limit (100) on the number of .no domains we are allowed to own, so this needs to be prioritized.

I want Sikt to take ownership of a domain owned by someone else​

This is very similar to buying a new domain, so the same conditions apply.
Except that in addition, you need permission from the current owner to transfer the domain to Sikt.
If you have that, you can send an email to hjelp@sikt.no and ask Kommunikasjon if this is okay.
